EU Peace Day Webinar
***A militarised garden: Breaking the consensus on EU funding for rearmament *
The session will begin from a practical observation: Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who challenge the current policy direction -particularly the rapid growth in certain spending priorities- represent a small minority, which limits their influence.
Against this backdrop, the discussion will move beyond simple opposition and instead focus on more constructive and strategic exchange, structures around two main pillars:
1) Understanding the MEPs’ perspective:
Why do many MEPs feel that there is little or no room left for debate?
Why are relatively few of them critical of this increase and its broader implications?
2) Exploring possible avenues for change:
What factors could realistically shift the current dynamic?
What role can civil society play, both at EU and national levels?
How can this discussion translate into concrete next steps within the European Parliament, particularly in relation to the Multinational Financial Framework (MFF) and other key policy files?
